It's so common that we tend to forget that there are times when hyperbole and exaggeration and, dare I say it, histrionics are not warranted... like, say, on primetime news.
Which brings me to a little gem I saw on CNSNews this morning.
MSNBC talkind head Ed Schultz was doing a report on House Minority Whip Ed Cantor (R-Va) counseling a constituent whose family member was diagnosed with cancer and was uninsured.
He apparently didn't like what Cantor had to say, and after making fun of Republican lawmakers, launched into this diatribe.
“Hold it right there,” said Schultz. “The Republicans lie. They want to see you dead. They‘d rather make money off your dead corpse. They kind of like it when that woman has cancer and they don’t have anything for her. That‘s how the insurance companies make money, by denying the coverage.”
Wait a minute, so a Republican lawmaker tries to help a constituent find out where to get help for her sick relative, and all of a sudden he wants her dead? I fail to see the logic here.
Unfortunately, impassioned and illogical rhetoric has become the tactic of choice with liberal commentators in the mainstream media. Which brings me to the hypocrisy in the title of this post.
Has anyone noticed that whenever someone gets savaged for using "over the top" rhetoric, it's nearly always a conservative commentator?
Glenn Beck tries to question the President's decision to appoint numerous political radicals to cabinet posts, and everyone savages him. Conservative commentators and bloggers question the Democratic Congress using massive amounts of taxpayer dollars to bail out just about everyone on the DJIA, and they're using "over the top rhetoric". The pro-life movement points out Obama's doublespeak on the abortion issue, and they're "anti-women".
A liberal commentator does the very thing conservatives are accused of, and they get off scot free. In fact, some will rush to their defense.
The hypocrisy is astounding.
And that's our lesson for today. Please take notes.
