Scottish Cardinal sent live bullet in the mail

THE leader of the catholic church in Scotland was sent a live bullet in the post.

Cardinal Keith O'Brien received the package at his edinburgh home.

The senders claimed to be the Protestant Action Group - an old cover name for the Ulster Volunteer Force.

Under the words "No Surrender", the letter warned the churchman: "If you bring your Pope here ... this is what he will get."

Police, including the Met's anti-terror squad, carried out an investigation but the culprits were not traced.

For those who don't know, the UVF is basically the Loyalist version of the IRA; a terrorist group known for violence against perceived Irish Republicans, mostly Catholic.

Threats like this may turn out to be bluster, but they MUST be taken seriously.  Any time someone threatens to kill a leader for whatever reason, it's a serious affair.

Pray for our Holy Father.

Definition: Liberal Catholic

Liberal Catholic (n):  A Catholic who selectively follows Church teaching; rationalizes voting for pro-abortion and pro-same sex "marriage" politicians with the mantra "they help the poor"; reduces Catholic social teaching to vile class warfare rhetoric; denigrates Catholic tradition and the Latin Mass

Anti-Catholic Snipe of the Day, 04/18/2011

From a comment on an LSN article.

You have all but lost the battle to demonize gay people, which drives thousands of gay children to suicide every year.
Your protect life is just a diversion from the truth, eg the endless hidden molesttation of children
Saddam Hussein was a nutcase because he was molested as a child by the uncld who broght him up.  Sometimes I think the catholic church has as a goal molesting children , because they then can warp their minds into hating gay people.

I'll ignore the age-old "gay suicides" snipe (suicide rates amongst homosexuals remain constant despite increasing societal acceptance of homosexuality), and focus on his other attack.

So, us Catholics, our goal is simply to molest as many children as possible and warp their minds?  Where is this guy getting his ideas, from a Richard Dawkins seminar?

There's really no point in trying to refute his stupid snipe; I don't have the energy for it this morning, and it's been drilled into the ground enough times.  I just post it here to point out the stupidity inherent in anti-Catholicism as in any other form of bigotry.

Delaware house legalizes same-sex "civil unions"

DOVER, Delaware, April 14, 2011 ( – House lawmakers in Delaware have enacted civil unions legislation that will give homosexual couples all of the legal benefits and obligations of marriage, except for the name.

The Dover Post reports that Markell intends to sign the bill next month at a signing ceremony. It will take effect January 1, 2012.

The House debated, and rejected nine amendments to the bill. One would have specified that unmarried heterosexuals could also apply for civil union status, another would have stressed that the legislature was not intending to make marriage the legal equivalent of a civil union, and another would have replaced the bill with a Designated Beneficiary Agreement, similar to what exists in Colorado law.

Pray for Delware.

Boycott the ACS?

Browsing brought me to this article.

Its springtime and Relays for Life, the American Cancer Society’s main fundraiser, are happening in cities all across the country over the next several months. It can be difficult for pro-life advocates to decide exactly how involved to be in events like this, as we can all agree that curing cancer is an important goal, even something worth supporting.

Unfortunately the American Cancer Society is not an organization I can support, as they have been linked to organizations that support abortion, human cloning and Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research (HESCR).

Question is; should Christians and other pro-lifers boycott the American Cancer Society until they stop funding abortion and embryonic stem cell research?  Every moral principle we believe in says "yes".

MSNBC: New Preakness mascot a party manimal

Not everyone's thrilled about the new half-man, half-horse Preakness Stakes mascot that sports a nipple ring and a beer gut.

The mascot called "Kegasus" — introduced this week — urges those coming to the infield at Pimlico Race Course to be legendary, a reference to the infield denizens' reputation for hard partying. The Preakness, to be held May 21 this year, is the second leg of racing's Triple Crown that also includes the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes.
The Preakness is the highlight of the Maryland racing calendar, often drawing more than 100,000 fans. The majority head to the infield, which becomes a giant party zone, a world away from the staid horse racing insiders in the box seats.

I'm with them.  The thing looks absolutely ridiculous.  I think only the London Olympics mascots are worse.
